the story how this started i posted this somewhere else so wanted to post it here
i’ve been wanting to see this show forever.
first i started looking for English Subs like anyone then for years i wanted to make Subs but me not knowing Chinese i had no hope until i could find a Translator.
well after many topics asking for a Translator’s help that never got one reply.lol
at D-Addicts i met my first Translator Flick in April she offered to help out some at first then became full on Translator for the Group thats when Sun WuKong Fan Subs was born

(i kinda feel like i’m telling the story of Journey to the west itself just change Translator to Disciple.lol well i don’t think i’d look right as the Tang monk even tho my head is shaved but so is Dicky’s 
well we went on working on the show and put a short part on youtube.
at the time we was working with the parts that are not too good crappy hardsubbed video.
then i found 4tvb.com a guy by the name of AsianLove had posted the Vietnamese dvd rip.
i download all the rips but afew were dead but he also had some of the dvd iso up too
now the rips looked great and they had no hardsubs burned into them, so i started editing the Cantonese audio to match the Vietnamese dvd it was some work at first but i’ve goten better at it. 
but had to download the 7 dvd iso to get 13 and 14 because they were dead then i seen how much better the dvd version was from the rip 
this almost killed me trying to download all the dvds they was missing files and they was only 10 out of 15 dvd.
so i gave up after a weeks of download them and look online where to buy them after looking all night i found a place and got them
anyway i found my 2nd Translator at 4tvb.com too.
she posted on D-Addicts about a year before saying she wanted to Sub Journey to the west but no one wanted to help her(its hard finding help sometimes 
i know it took years for me )
well because it was the same user name i pm her telling her we was Subbing the show and ask if she wanted to still Sub it.
she was very happy to help 
she really helped to speed up our work she being such a big fan of the show and without her we couldn’t have Subbed the end it being Vietnamese audio only
really wish it was canto tho but its still cool to see delete stuff 
went on a little longer then a guy that is a big fan of ours (afro monkey) said his friend would love to help.
thats when i got Yuen she’s a big JTTW fan and knows so much about it.
and afro monkey will be making spanish subs for ppl who need them 
well thats how Sun WuKong Fan Subs came about, we still have a long Journey to go thro the 29 EP left.
hopefully we’ll start on Journey to the west vol 2 when we get done with the 1st vol just have to wait and see.
i just want to thank my great Translators!!
there like the air without them this would all just die and be forgotten.

I hope you guys are still working on this. I watched VHS versions of this show in 1996 and loved it. Think I watched it a good 10 or more times (didn’t even come close with JttW 2 since it was weaker without Dicky).
I’ve been searching for English subbed, Cantonese language non-Real Media files for a long long time. Since 1998! I’ve only managed to find non-subbed Cantonese RM files or non-subbed Mandarin-dubbed .avi files.
I found you through D-Addicts during one of my few-monthly checks for this series. The torrent’s dead… but I did see a bit of your stuff on YouTube. Sounds like accurate translations so far! I’m looking forward to watching this series with my partner (who doesn’t understand Cantonese at all) when you complete this!
I’d like to say thank you in advance, since this is the one series I’ve been waiting a long time for. Only thing left is getting the soundtrack if there is one.

yeah we are still working on the show but we all have busy lifes:(
so it’ll be slow going Flick is almost done checking EP2 then i get to time it and convert it and upload it.
plus we have another check over it if it works like the 1st EP did.
and after all that we will upload EP2 so it’ll be awile.lol
my Translators work so hard to get everything right anybody can rush and have subs that are half unreadable.lol
so i’m very proud to work with such great and wonderful Translators^_^
and yeah the only version i heard was even put out for canto was the shitty VCDs but thank God for the viet dvds:D
with a little work we got a dvd version for the canto now
and as for the soundtrack it’d be nice to have, it would save me alot of work editing it.lol
i don’t know if you seen my English dub i’ve been making from the English sub version.
but i’ve been editing some music and one day i plan to have a dvd version (most likely a long way off)with all dubs and subs.
by that time i’m sure i might have alot of the background music and put it on the dvd for icing on the cake^_^
of course i’ll want to have at least 2 full EP’s in English dub before i do it:P
but alot of the songs i’ve edited are used like two times in an EP so its getting easier to get more done faster.lol
plus i need to learn to use some of them high dolor dvd making programs 1st as well when i get the time.
so i can make a bad ass dvd, it being so big it has to be worth uploading.

A fair while back I managed to get some singular tracks off Kazaa from the show. I think about 6 or so of them in mp3 format. If they’ll help in any way (or you just want them) let me know. I’m assuming that some of you can see the email I’ve been using to comment. =p
A couple of questions about the first episode release:
1. Is that the resolution of the DVD rip or has it been resized down?
2. Any chance of removing the black border box?
And a separate question: Any chance of having an email subscription list for updates/releases?
sure i’ll take any songs you got but i have the main 4 that Dicky did.
but if you have any Instrumentals or other songs that you think might fit at a place in the show for a replacement please let me know.
like i’m stuck at 27:30 minutes needing to replace the background song for the part where Tian Peng is thanking Wu Gang for his mansion and he getting gifts.
any good Instrumentals you think would fit there would be great help.
anyway i’ll get something sooner or later thinking about buying the forbidden kingdom soundtrack i’ve already used three songs off of it.lol

I’m assuming you need to replace the tracks due to the audio/sync discrepancies between the Vietnamese and Cantonese versions? I have an idea for keeping the tracks, but it would be a horrible amount of time and effort — piecing together the non-dialogue sections over the course of the series. I cringe at the thought.
What converter are you using by the way? Those black borders don’t sound normal.
flick: the email subscription works so far. My email’s confirmed and I should receive the next update. I’ll let you know then whether the notifications are working.

and it really is a very hard thing to do but can’t do all the songs like that because not all of them are played enough:(
ever time i need to edit a song i scan all 30 EP’s looking for the parts of the song i need its takes a very long time to do.lol
and i replacing the music for the English dub i been making.
you can find it on youtube about 20 minutes already done in English part 1,2 and 3 i’ve done all the voices so far.
my Translator Yuen will be doing the women voices right now i’m waiting for her to do Guan Yin voice until i can do any more.lol
i hope to dub the whole EP 1
anyway i use a few converters i use TMPGEnc XPress to add the canto audio to the viet video.
then use virtualdubmod to add the subs
then run it threw Vegas Pro 8.0 using the H 264 codec to get it down in file size

I just found, downloaded, and watched your Episode 1 from D-Addicts. And I have to say GREAT work, and Thanks a lot for doing this project!!
I’m a big fan of the Journey To The West story since I was a kid. And I saw this 1996 version back in 1998 (If I remember correctly), however it was dubbed and I think cutted too. So this time, I really appreciated the opportunity you guys have given me to watch this work in it’s original language, and subbed too!! (I hate dubbing…)
Please continue on this project! I actually hope I can help you guys in some way, if only I know Chinese…(Or Cantonese for that matter?!)

…12 months later – have you stopped fan subbing? I have episodes 1 & 2 downloaded and I thank you very much. Are you going to do any more? If not, do you know where I can download the non english version? Im so eager to see more…
